The expert roofers at Summit Roofing & Siding
are far too familiar with the challenges that come from replacing roofs on older homes. Often times, older roofs are constructed differently, and shingles are far more damaged after years of wear and tear and battling the elements. Our most recent project - a Willow Grove roof replacement - presented us with those same issues. The roof was built with two layers of shingles that were in horrible condition. They were very old and brittle; a terrible combination, as old, brittle shingles are more susceptible to storm and wind damage. After a particularly strong storm, several shingles went missing, and the clients suffered leaks throughout their home. They had submitted a claim to their insurance company and were finally ready for a brand new roof. We immediately set to work tearing out both layers of roofing, and ran into another issue: the original plank decking was completely deteriorated. Our team replaced the entire decking with new plywood and installed premium synthetic underlayment, an ice and water shield, and new lifetime shingles. The rest of the roof was finished off with premium Owens Corning Duration Shingles in Chateau Green. The clients also opted to replace their non-functioning gutter system to prevent future damage to their home. However, the existing fascia boards were missing their capping due to wind damage, and the exposed wood was totally rotted. The fascia wood was repaired and, in most places, completely replaced. New aluminum metal capping was fabricated and installed to further protect the wood. Finally, we were able to install a brand new gutter system to complete the updated look of the new roof. A new roof on an old house does way more than give it a clean, fresh look. It protects your home from underlying damages that could cause mountains of issues and headaches down the road.
