A leaky roof is the cause of many more issues other than water damage. It can cause you to question the structural integrity of your home, and worry about trusting another contractor to make repairs when it was a contractor who caused the problem in the first place. At Summit Roofing & Siding, we have built our business off of our reputation for customer service, hard work, and excellent results. On top of that, we provide some of the most extensive warranties available to you so that you can feel secure with your decision to let us work for you for years to come! This was exactly what a Hatfield homeowner wanted to hear when he came to us for help repairing his roof.
When performing our initial inspection, we discovered that a previous contractor had installed asphalt shingles on the roof, which had a slope of less than 3:12. Because of such a shallow pitch, the roof was too flat to allow rainwater to drain properly. This caused the water to back up under the shingles. The water would start to pool, rusting the nails and seeping through the roof and into the home!
All of the shingles and much of the underlying plywood had to be completely removed. Once we replaced the damaged plywood with new, sturdy planks, we installed Mule Hide self-adhering base sheet to the entire deck. Once the base sheet was installed, we began laying edge metal along the perimeter, applying asphalt primer to the flange that fastens to the roof. The asphalt allowed the cap sheets to adhere to the metal. We used Mule Hide self-adhering cap sheets in a color called Weather Wood. This sealed perfectly to the edge metal, creating a much more water-resistant shield than the old asphalt shingles ever could. To wrap up the project, we installed a new ventilation pipe and wall flashings to replace the old, rusty ones. We also installed new hips at the roof peak for a finished look.
The homeowner couldn't have been happier with the end result. And to quell any lingering worries he may have had, recent rainstorms proved that his new roof would prove much more effective at protecting his home! We make it our job to take every aspect of each project into consideration. What may work just fine for one home could lead to serious damages to another home, and that's why we work with you to ensure that you always get the best product for your home, and for your budget!
